Of the 188 resorts we work with, 115 can be reached by seaplane, 78 by speedboat and 46 by domestic flight (usually plus a speedboat). Speedboats serve the islands closest to Malé; seaplanes fly in daylight only.
Every Maldives resort sits on its own island, so the last part of your journey is a transfer from Velana International Airport (MLE) near Malé. Which one you take depends on how far the island is from the airport.
Speedboat
Resorts in North and South Malé Atolls are usually reached by speedboat. Across the resorts in our collection, the typical speedboat transfer takes about 35 minutes. Speedboats run day and night, which makes them the easiest option for late arrivals.
Seaplane
Seaplanes fly from a dedicated terminal next to the main airport and land on a platform by the resort. The typical seaplane flight in our collection takes about 35 minutes. Because seaplanes only fly in daylight, guests landing in the evening may need a night in Malé or Hulhumalé first.
Domestic flight
The most distant atolls are served by regional airports. You fly from MLE to the domestic airport and finish with a short speedboat ride. 46 resorts in our collection use this route.
